In The Hobbit and The Lord Of The Rings, JRR Tolkien accessed a rich dimension of mythological symbolism which, once started, cannot be put down.  The Lord Of The Rings is the archtypal story of the struggle between good and evil, light and darkness.

Perhaps the most important character in the story is Gandalf, a wizard who inspires, defends, directs, and protects the free peoples he is trying to unite and support against the Dark Lord of Mordor. Gandalf is a Merlin archtype, that link of guide and teacher between the realm of mortals and the kingdom of the gods.

In creating the Lord Of The Rings Tarot, the authors have felt, at the ragged edges of their own reality, the occasional presence of this archtype:  It is playful as well as full of great teaching.  It is thus fitting that this tarot deck should also contain the aspect of a game, encompassing the principal of fun and adventure that Gandalf so epitomized.

Fanciful charachters from The Lord Of The Rings trilogy and The Hobbit appear on each of the 22 Major Arcana and 56 Minor Arcana Tarot Cards.
The 43 page instruction booklet contains a history of how the deck came into being, Tarot card definitions for interpretation, instructions for the Celtic Cross Spread, and complete rules for a card game to be played by 2-6 players, ages 10-adult.
