The Nutcracker Suite (Highlights)-A Holiday Classic!
Berlin Symphony Orchestra (Conducted by: Peter Wohlert)
The Nutcracker Ballet is based on Hoffman's book called The Nutcracker and the Mouse King.
Basic Story (not included)
It is Christmas Eve and the Stahlbaums and their children, Clara & Fritz, are hosting their annual Christmas party.
Uncle Drosselmeyer, a skilled clock and toymaker, arrives. Although Uncle Drosselmeyer's gift to Fritz is quite nice, he gives Clara a beautiful Nutcracker. Fritz becomes jealous and promptly breaks it and Clara is heartbroken.
As the Stahlbaum family retires for the evening, Clara sneaks back to the tree to check on her beloved Nutcracker, falling asleep with him in her arms.
The clock strikes midnight. Clara begins shrinking and the toys around the tree come to life while the room fills with an army of mice, lead by the fierce Mouse King. The Nutcracker awakens and leads his army of toy soldiers into battle with the mice. The Nutcracker seems to be no match for the Mouse King and just as he is captured, Clara throws her slipper at the Mouse King, mortally wounding him.
The Nutcracker turns into a Prince and takes Clara on a journey to the Land of Snow, an enchanted forest wonderland where they are welcomed by dancing snowflakes.
Then, the Prince escorts Clara to the Land of Sweets where they are greeted by the Sugar Plum Fairy. The Prince tells her about their daring battle and she rewards them with a celebration of dances. As a finale, the Sugar Plum Fairy and the Cavalier dance a beautiful Pas De Deux.
Finally, Clara awakens from her dream and finds herself by her Christmas tree with her beloved Nutcracker.
The Nutcracker highlights perfectly capture the atmosphere and warmth of this special season with their story of a little girl and her love for a very special toy. A holiday classic that is sure to please!
