In Alchemy, Sulphur is one of the three components, with Mercury and Salt, that make up base matter. Mercury is the mind/spirit; Salt is the will/body; Sulphur is the love/soul. The 3 are said to make up the Philosopher's Stone, which can transmute any base metal or character into golden perfection.
Although not an herb, it is most often searched for in our herb section. The word is also commonly spelled Sulfur and the mineral/element is also known as Brimstone.
Powdered Sulphur relates to the Sun, and the element of Fire. In magic, sulphur is used in exorcism and protection spells. Sulphur powder is used magically in incense for hex breaking, protection, fire magick, banishing, “counter magic“, and exorcism. It is also used in ritual baths and floor washes.
CAUTION- It smells very tame, until it is lit, then the scent is very powerful. Personally, I think the scent is quite interesting. Actually, if you light a match and blow it right out, you can smell the sulphur and decide for yourself. Sulphur is found near volcanoes, where it is formed after volcanic eruptions.
A simple, but powerful purification incense:
You might want to try this outside to see how it smells, before you try it indoors...
Blend together 2 Tbs. Dragon's Blood, 1 Tbs. Sulphur, 1 Tbs. Asafoetida, concentrating on your goal. When finished, hold the incense in your strongest hand and concentrate on your goal. Take a small amount of incense and place on hot charcoal and allow to smolder. Repeat as needed.
This can be used to clear a home of unwanted energies. Use caution. This odor is extremely powerful and may linger! Burn something pleasant to smell afterwards. Make sure the incense is burning in a heat proof container, open the windows, and do not breathe in the fumes, if possible.
