The ritual chalice or cup is used on the altar to represent the feminine principle of Water. Chalices may be of any material. Many use silver or pewter (be careful with untreated metals when serving wine)chalices, but ceramic chalice are popular and can be found most anywhere you can get stoneware .. Some Witches have many different kinds, for different types of rituals. Some Witches will avoid real "lead" crystal because of the Saturn influence.

Some will use almost any vessel, even a plain glass tumbler, it only needs to hold the liquid required. Others have a need for a more ceremonial chalice, used only for this one purpose.
To me, it lends a special quality to have a cup that is only used for the one purpose. It helps you to leave the ordinary space and become more in touch with the intangible, because you only use it for the one purpose. Instant recognition and mind awareness.

Wiccan Pentagram or Pentacle

The Pentacle is a symbol of a star encased in a circle. Always with 5 points (one pointing upward), each has its own meaning. In Wicca, the upward point of the pentacle star is representative of the spirit. The other four points all represent an element; earth, air, fire, and water. All these things contribute to life and are a part of each of us. All the elements and the spirit are within the circle to symbolize that everything is connected.

The number 5 has always been regarded as mystical and magical, yet essentially human. We normally have five fingers/toes on each hand/foot. We commonly note five senses - sight, hearing, smell, touch and taste. There are many more correspondences to the number 5. I will leave it at that.
The pentacle has long been believed to be a potent protection against evil, and may also be worn to shield the wearer or hung in the house to shield the home.

Not only used in Wicca, the pentacle (or pentagram) symbol is found in many other traditions and cultures. The pentacle symbol has been used by Greeks, Hebrews, Masons, Druids, Gnostics, Hermetics, Celtic Pagans & more. Medieval Christians attributed the pentagram to the Five Wounds of Christ. You will find the 5 pointed star above the Christmas tree, on the Moroccan flag, the US Flag, on US Money, and more. Silver Pentacle Chalice Details:
This goblet is silver plated brass. There is a Wiccan pentagram (weaving pentacle in a circle) on both sides of the chalice! The pattern is pressed into the goblet (recessed). The exterior surface is otherwise smooth. The interior of the cup is also silver and can have either a smooth or a "spun finish", depending on the current chalice supply. The pentacle chalice measures about 8" tall. The goblet's bowl is about 2 1/2 across at the top, but about 3 1/4 inches across at the widest part. The chalice base is about 3" across.

This lovely silver pentacle chalice may be used by more than just Wiccans. It is a lovely piece anyone who can appreciate the symbolism of the weaving pentacle could find it useful. Use this chalice to hold water, wine or ? Perfect for spellcraft, ritual ceremony, or just as a Great wine glass!

Please Note: Wine is very acidic, as are many juices. It would be wise not to leave your silver plated chalice with any liquid inside, sitting overnight. Also, as these items are made in India, measurements and details are usually uniform, but can vary slightly from time to time. Pentacles are stamped into the chalice and may be slightly uneven in depth, upon occasion. This should not be considered a flaw, but a sign of the individual craftsmanship.
