In China, Kuan Yin is the Goddess of Mercy and Compassion and is also the Protectress of Children. Some also look to her, as a goddess of fertility.

In both Taoism and Buddhism Kuan Yin is the goddess of compassion, she is the Japanese Bodhisattva Kannon or Kanzeon, and is identified with the Indian Bodhisattva Avalokitesvara, including all of the scriptures which apply to him. Kuan (Shih) Yin means "the one who hears the cries of the world and comes." She may also be known as Kwan Yin, Quan Shi Yin, and Kwan Shih Yen, depending on where she is found.

Kuan Yin is also known as patron bodhisattva of P'u-t'o Shan, mistress of the Southern Sea and patroness of fishermen. As such, she is shown crossing the sea seated or standing on a lotus or with her feet on the head of a dragon.
She is the protectress of women, sailors, merchants, craftsmen, and those under criminal prosecution, and is often called upon by those desiring children.

Here, Kuan Yin is represented seated on a rock at the edge of the water from which rise nine Dragons, who drink from her vase that holds the nectar of her compassion. The Dragons symbolize the creative strength of Heaven (Yang) and Kuan Yin represents the earth (Yin).

Kuan Yin holds in her left hand a ju-i, which represents the Mystical Lotus, or good wishes. On the rock outcropping next to her is placed another vase of her compassion and a closed Lotus bud. Lotuses also represent purity and divine birth.

At her side, are 2 small children. It is said that when Kuan Yin has children depicted with her, it represents her ability to bestow offspring to her faithful.

This lovely porcelain Kuan Yin statue will drip water from her flask into the Dragon’s mouths. First, pour enough water into the lower right Dragon’s mouth until it is nearly full. Then tip the Kuan Yin statue onto her back, then completely upside down for a moment, and place her on a level surface.

The water will gently drip into the Dragon’s mouths, until it has all run back into the bottom. To restart the water, tip the Kuan Yin statue upside down again.

This can be a wonderful meditation piece with each drop counting your blessings. You may then use the water to sprinkle around a location for cleansing, healing and clearing energies.

The Porcelain Kuan Yin statue measures about 16" high, 6 1/2" wide, and 4" deep. There are nine dragons and 2 small children on this statue. This lovely porcelain Kuan Yin statue will drip water from her flask into the Dragon’s mouths, hence "drip fountain".

This lovely Porcelain Kuan Yin statue is done in a beautiful creamy off-white porcelain, with fine detail that I have not seen, in some time. You can see the elegant detail of the folds of her dress, the dramatic curve of her fingernails, an even fine detail of every dragon's scales and teeth. It is difficult to find words that do justice to the exquisite detail and craftsmanship of the beautiful lady.

Each gorgeous porcelain Kuan Yin statue comes carefully boxed, with a description card, explaining the wonderful symbolism and use of the drip fountain.

It is quite a substantial and elegant piece, and would make an excellent gift for anyone interested in Buddhism, Taoism, Meditation, Eastern Art, or Feng Shui.
