Mandrake Root, Cut-Toxic*
Mandrake Root relates to the planet Mercury, the element of fire, and is masculine in nature. The name Mandrake comes from the fact that the root looks similar to a man. Legend has it that the root will scream when pulled and that the scream will cause an agonizing death for the person who pulls it.

In magic, mandrake is used for protection, to attract love, money, fertility, health, and image magic. It is said that Mandrake placed under the pillow kindles passion between two lovers, even if the flame seems to have died. It is also said that money will double, when placed near mandrake.
Activate Mandrake by placing it in some prominent place in the home. After 3 days, soak in water overnight and then it may be used for any purpose. The water may be used for protection or purification. Just sprinkle it where it is needed.

A Good Luck Charm:
Place some Mandrake root in a mojo bag or necklace to attract good luck. Hold the bag in your strongest hand and concentrate on your wish for a moment or two, then forget about it.

*Although mandrake is called for in some ancient incense recipes, it is toxic and can cause severe illness or death. To be on the safe side, mandrake should not be ingested, at all. Tobacco is a common substitute.
