Frankincense Incense ~ Charcoal Resins
Coming from the genus of tree called Boswellia, frankincense resin has been in use for thousands of years as a religious incense and for medicinal purposes. Also known as olibanum from the Arabic al-lubán (the milk) referring to the color, the name frankincense refers to it being a true or frank incense. This fragrant resin incense has been prized by many cultures around the world for its therapeutic and spiritual properties.

Frankincense has some wonderful medicinal virtues. The resin has anti-inflammatory qualities, and has been added to creams and balms that reduce inflammation associated with osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis, and may be helpful for lower back pain, as well.

The scent of Frankincense resin is described as a beautifully balsamic, woody scent with a touch of citrus. Frankincense always reminds me of the Renaissance Pleasure Faire (festival).

Frankincense relates to the signs of Aries, Leo, and Sagittarius, belongs to the element of fire, and is ruled by the Sun. In magick, it is used for consecration, courage, exorcism, love, protection, and spirituality. When burned, frankincense raises the vibrations in the area, driving out negativity and evil. Rosemary may be used as a substitute for frankincense.

Frankincense resin is a wonderful meditation incense. It is said that frankincense will help psychic abilities and can help induce visions and further spiritual growth, as well. It is also a wonderful incense for consecrating magical tools. For love, try adding some frankincense to a mojo or charm bag. For clearing a space, burn frankincense and move (use care) the incense burner throughout the space, concentrating on your intention. To burn resin, just sprinkle a little onto hot incense charcoal and voila!

Frankincense is a wonderful resin incense for cleansing a space of negativity. It is also a wonderful all around incense for the magical cabinet. However, it will not burn by itself, but needs to be burned over charcoal blocks.

Always use with heat-proof container when burning charcoal incense and never leave burning incense unattended. Keep away from children, pets, and flammable materials.
